Video Template talk:Non-free comic

Encouraging fair-use rationale

I have proposed a wording change to our non-free image templates, and I'm trying to keep the discussion centralized here. Please join in the discussion. (ESkog)(Talk) 11:30, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Incorporated comic book covers into this template

There is an ongoing project to revamp all the non-free image templates. This project ended up killing the old Template:comiccover (it's now a redirect to this template). So, on the recommendation of User:Cyde, I took the old text that used to be in Template:comiccover and incorporated it into Template:Non-free comic.

The new template is a bit long, but I guess it makes sense that comic covers don't really need separate image templates from comic interiors. If anyone disagrees, please speak up! -- Lawrence King (talk) 04:37, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Edit request on 17 December 2012

As far as I can tell, the change to this template made by SchuminWeb on November 19 was never discussed, and thus there was no consensus for it established. This makes it a Bold edit. I would like to take the next step in WP:BRD and Revert it, but I cannot, since I am not an admin. Therefore I request that an admin revert SchuminWeb's edit of November 19. Thanks. Please change this text:

 * the use of low-resolution images of the cover of a comic book to illustrate: **the issue of the comic book in question; **the periodical comic book series of which this issue is a part; or **the copyrighted comic book character(s) or group(s) on the cover of the issue in question; * or the use of low-resolution images of a single panel from a comic strip or an interior page of a comic book to illustrate: ** the scene or storyline depicted, or ** the copyrighted character(s) or group(s) depicted on the excerpted panel in question; *where no free alternative exists or can be created<!--i.e., even if you draw Spider-Man yourself, it still isn't a "free" image since Spider-Man's appearance is a trademark of Marvel-->, *on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, qualifies as fair use

Basically, I am asking for two minor grammar corrections that I don't think will change anything significant about the template itself. The "or" in the middle should be separated from the two sections, and the "qualifies" then needs to be changed to "qualify" since there are actually two sections, not just one (so a plural verb to match the nouns). I am not quite sure how to format so that others can understand exactly what I am asking for here, and my attempt to do it is looking messy. But the change should be simple, if no one objects. Thank you. A loose noose (talk) 23:26, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

@A loose noose: sorry I'm not exactly sure what you mean. I tried to tidy up your request, but could you please make your requested changes to Template:Non-free comic/sandbox, and reactivate when ready? -- Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:54, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
@MSGJ: Done. A loose noose (talk) 14:17, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
I prefer the original version over the version currently in the sandbox. The version in the sandbox groups the "where" clause and the "on en.wp" clause in with the second of the two sections. However, these clauses apply to both cases, not just the second. --RP88 (talk) 00:09, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
